A Book? Yeah, I’ve Heard of those…

So I found this pretty interesting, I had know what the actual process was for a long time, but to be able to see it – in action, that was a treat.

The computer has utterly revolutionized the entire publishing world, if I were so inclined I could walk over to one of my computers and gather up some of my writing,  print it out and coil bind it all in less than an hour. Not just me, anyone with a computer and printer can do the same. But, just 40 or 50 years ago things were mighty different. You have any old books kicking around, from the 50’s or 60’s? Then most definitely they were made this way… I found an old video showing just how incredibly labour intensive was the whole book making process…

The whole process imbued books with a certain quality – a little something that made books a bit more important…. we have access to more information now than any generation since the dawn of time, ironically time spent reading has plummeted. I wonder if it has something to do with the ease and almost disposable nature of books today that have helped created this cavalier attitude. I still really like to physically hold a book in my hands, not always, I split my reading about 50/50 with a digital reader and real books – actually that’s not true I also read a ton on my computer. But sitting down with a real book is just different.

Thank god for reading on computers or I’d be talking to no one right now…

So take a look at the video it’s pretty cool and see how they used to make books…. then maybe you’ll be inspired to read one… I have a large collection of caveman erotica I could lend you or perhaps some of my collected works of obscure sea shanty’s would be more to your liking.

Here’s the video…

See, wasn’t that fun? Have a Great Day
