Reading, It’s Help you very much, alots.

I am a reader. Always have been and as long as I don’t end up having my eyes plucked out for some reason (the reason, Oh I’ll tell you – at some point I fully expect, and have resigned myself, to becoming the victim of some random bird swarming in which I lose at least one, if not both of my eyes). But that’s my cross to bear not yours. We all have our fears, I mean seriously, why else would a bird need such a dangerous mouth, something as vicious as a beak. Have you ever stopped to consider that? No, you didn’t, because it’s me who asks the tough questions. Bird seed, worms and the occasional parental regurgitation…. that’s all birds every eat, EVER – when does the beak become a requirement….. I’ll tell you when, human eye extraction, that’s when – it’s the only thing that makes any sense…. Go ahead, argue with me… I have video of a chickadee eating a guys head, then spitting it out and EVERYTHING is intact EXCEPT the eyes…..

There is NO reason for birds to be so overly equipped.... unless it's to one day take over and rule earth....

SPOON BILL?!? come on – what else could possibly be done with that… it’s tailor made for scooping out your eye…… Science estimates about 300 to 400 BILLION birds  are currently flying around our planet…. all of them simply waiting, watching, sharpening their beaks… even the word “Beaks”… say it slowly, out loud, Beaks, Beaks, Beaks, you know what it sounds like… it sounds exactly like blindness feels….. you’ve been warned and remember who told you.

So anyways, reading, I am a huge fan and have been ever since I was little, started with comics and graduated to MAD Magazine, then eventually novels & non-fiction – roughly a 2 book a week pace for the last 10 or 15 years, I love to read. For me, holding a book in your hands, the sound of the brand new book cracking when it’s opened for the first time, the crisp possibilities of the untouched pages… good stuff, that. The book could end up blowing Tijuana Donkeys or it could change the very perspective and direction of your life… all of it based solely on the order with which an author arranges and rearranges our 26 letters… now that’s cool.

I’m rare and becoming positively endangered, people stopped reading awhile back, oh I don’t mean completely, street signs, sure, the occasional cereal box, but generally, the vast vast majority of people don’t consider reading a viable pastime. Oh most folks will SAY they’re a reader, but not really. I’m not judging anyone….I understand, there it sits on your night stand, that book you’ve meant to read for who knows how long but haven’t yet cracked open. Tonight, as you feel its stare, know one thing — you are not alone. One in four adults read no books at all in the past year, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll – this from a article I read on CNN. Not a single book in the past year. Obviously you value quality and so, read my blog. But the other morons……

I bring this up because people have been predicting the death of the printed word for a good long time now, since radio, movies, TV etc etc – books have endured. The Internet is but the latest assault on the words on paper medium. Newspapers are all but dead, magazines raising prices – all the while cutting down on content in favour of more and more ads in a desperate struggle to stay afloat. For me, books will always be a part of my life, and there are pockets of society in which this will always be true…. unless the birds finally mobilize….  The purpose of this post is to show you a really really really clever (yea 3 reallys, it’s that good) video – put out by the publishing industry to say – hey yea, we’re in tough and it’s been a struggle but we’re in it for the long haul….. check it out by clicking the link….  The Future of Publishing – it’s more impressive with sound, if you’ve got it…..

It is just so smart and imaginative and well done – so very well done….. it makes me want to go out and punch a bird ——  shouting at the top of my lungs “NO, you shan’t have my eyes today Mr Sparrow”….

Have A Great Day.
